First of all, if you?re going to post something like this, just to cause trouble, at least blame the right country. So far, Iceland have killed 2 whales. I?m not sure how many the US (or Japan) for that matter have killed, but we?re talking about a lot more. (The USA are the leading country in killing whales) I use killing, instead of hunting them, on purpose. Why is this such a noble creature? Apparently humans can hunt anything they want (including other humans, as long as they?re not from a western society), so why not whales???
And to man who wants to invade Iceland... You should really grow a brain :) Up until a month ago, you had (I?m presuming you?re american, no other nation can be this stupid) a military base in Iceland. OK. Let's get this straight! These pics are from The Faroe Islands and many nations, including the USA, approve this way of their inheritage to hunt for whales.

It is this kind of blind generalization which has landed the world in the sorry state it is in today. Please remember that Bush is an American and not all Americans and that American soldiers are dying for something they believe in and if you don't like it there are a lot better ways to say so than swearing anonymously on a forum about whale hunting. At the same time it is completely unacceptable to judge the actions seen in the pictures above based on them alone. We don't know the statistics, the situation, or even the date. 1: Whales are just animals like cows and chicken. While humans eat animals, it is normal to eat whales too.
2: These pictures are from the Faroese Islands. The hunting is based on a 1000 year old tradition. The meat is distributed to sholls, hosptitals, retirement homes etc. This is a beautiful tradition.
3: Whaling is good for the environment. By killing fish but not whales humans mess up with the balance of nature. Organized whaling re-establishes the balance.
4: Whales are delicious!
Therefore: thanks to the five nations saving environment by whaling: Iceland, Norway, the Faroes, Japan and last but not least the biggest and most active whale-kiling country in the whole world: the United States of America. |

In response to the comment below that dolphins are whales by somone from Iceland, you might want to enroll at your local university and take Comparative Anatomy. No, dolphins are not whales. Yes they are both cetacians but they are not the same. You might be confusing the "Killer Whale" which is in fact the largest member of the dolphin family and is not a true whale.
As far as Americans being so terrible, all you need to do is look at Germany, France, Italy, etc. These countries are being over-run by Muslims who have a birth rate at approximately three times higher than the traditional population. Most of the traditional European societies will be bred out of existance. They will win by sheer numbers. Unfortunately, this will also happen to your country much faster becasue it is so much smaller. |

Dolphins are no more related to most whales as humans are related to the chimpanzee. They are biologically in the same "family", but differ at the genus level.
Second to the US kills more whales than any other nation comments: Okay historically you may be right, but that was before a time when people weren't so familiar with ideas like conservation. In the 1920's whaling significantly decreased in the US and today only allowed in 10 Native American groups (9 in Alaska, 1 in Washington State) and the annual combined harvest average is roughly 50 Bowheads, a species of whales, per year. Commercial harvest is ZERO, NULL, you know NONE!
Relatively few in comparison to:
Faroe Islands: 1000 Long-finned Pilot Whales
Japan: > 600*
Norway: >600*
Greenland: 170*
*The data didn't specify what species of whale was hunted.

I consider myself educated and geographically literate. But I was not sure of where the Faroe Islands are and who it's people are. I googled and discovered it's a chain of a few dozen islands half way between the UK and Iceland. There are 27,000 folks there, decended from Vikings. Their main industry is fishing. Apparently, whale meat is a national dish with roots going back several hundred years.
So, as a tree hugging American, I'm distressed by the bloody scene of men killing "cute" pilot whales. But I eat pork ribs and roast beef sandwiches. I don't get upset about these animals being slaughtered. I also buy wild salmon to put on the BBQ. Why is it offensive to kill a pod of pilot whales but not offensive to kill a school of salmon? I guess it's because the whales are cuter than salmon.
Say the shoe was on the other foot. Say a European website showed the American practice of deer hunting. Pictures of American men with high powered rifles and deer carcases and text refering to our obesity and the ready availability of T-bone steaks. I suspect the Euros would conclude that the Yanks are barbarians, killing cute little animals for no reason. Yet most American hunters eat their kill. Without the culling of deer herds, forests and ranglends would be denuded by rampant overpopulation of hungry deer. It's hunt them ourselves or put back wolves and cougars in our woods to perfrom poulation control naturally. Oh, and munching a few family pets along the way.
So I guess my country mates want to vilify a culture they don't understand. Our way is better than yours. I disagree. Let these island people celebrate their culture and hunt their own food. |

| killing whales isnt more morally wrong then eating cows or chicken or salmon, what is wrong is killng enough whales that you damage the ecosystems found in the ocean which the whales are a vital part of. In many circumstances, some hunting, which is sustainable, is OK. I dont know anything about these whales, how many are left, and if this type of harvest is considered sustainable. However, if it isnt, and we are leading to the extinction of a living species on planet Earth (the only one we have) then this harvest is extremely wrong in my eyes, more wrong then attacking or killing any humans, more important then any culture. more important then america, iraq, iceland, any nation. This is something that is beyond mortality to humans and i should hope that people are willing to make any sacrifice and accept any change that benefits the environment, because it is the most important thing in the world, it is the world. So, if this harvest of whales is unsustainable, then i condem it and desire that it must stop or be reduced. |

Sad that some of you that sound angry in your posts also have a hard time spelling. These views you see come from a deep social collective outlook fed by media whether its true or not. If any of you seek to look beyond your own personal struggle and make a rational comment based on facts that you have gathered (and from good sources) Then none of you would be arguing. The slaughter you see COULD have been from a problem they were causing with the local fishery. It is possible these fish stayed and migrated into these waters from global warming effects on oceanic currents. The end result has already been done and arguing about it wont bring you closer to any kind of a result.
I wouldnt bring politics into this however seeing as some may not have a full view I will expand this post. American forces located in Iraq are wanted by the majority of the people and needed for security for the people until the people can provide their own security. Saddam's regime had grown into a one sided ideal system that did slaughter any that opposed those ideals they kept. It was just a matter of time before the people learned of democracy and cried out for change and were then silenced through slaughter by Saddam's regime. The American occupation is not a total failure however it may severally benefit from reform and secondary approach to national security.

I love the water and everything in it, but this probably happens once a year and feeds the town for the rest of the year and nothing goes to waste. Look at us slaughtering hundred thousand cows daily, and eating only half of them. No wounder why the rest of the world hates americans. First point: If you stand there and rant and rave about how horrible the US is while wearing your Levis and Nikes (although probably not made in the US, they are from here regardless) then you are a dumbass!
Second point: If you think that we are "barbarians" for lashing out at the monsters that attacked us on our mainland, killing innocent people (not a single active duty military member was killed at either WTC tower, or the plane that the passengers stopped) then you are a dumbass!
Third point: If you dare say we are a horrible country, then cry out to us when some natural disaster or terrorist attack kills thousands of your countrymen and women, then you are a dumbass!
Fourth point: If you think that Iraq was a better place when a mass murdering, torturous dictator was in charge, then you are a major dumbass!
Fifth point: If you believe the world's economy will remain as strong as it is, with the sustained world alliance associations for free trade and travel without the US doing 90% of the work, then you are a dumbass!
Last point: If you believe that the US [one of the few places in the world where anyone can succeed (and trust me, if I did it then anyone can), regardless of their cultural background, sexual orientation, or sex] is a worse place than the rest of the world, then you are a dumbass!
